Green Bean Casserole From Scratch

I've fancied up a classic Thanksgiving dish. This creamy Green Bean Casserole From Scratch recipe has lot's of onions, mushrooms, and green beans, & Gruyere

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Fresh Green Beans trimmed
  • 1 lb Portobello Mushrooms sliced
  • 2 Onions sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley chopped
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Gruyere Cheese grated
  • 3.5 oz Crispy Onions
  • Salt + Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 Degrees Fahrenheit 
  • In a large microwave-safe bowl place the Green Beans with 2 teaspoons of water, salt, and pepper. Microwave for 2-3 minutes or until cooked. Place them in cold water to stop cooking, drain and set aside
  • In a large wide mouth skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes or until softened
  • Add the onions, parsley, salt, and pepper and cook until the onions have softened. About 5 minutes. 
  • Pour in the flour and cook while stirring for 1 minute or until the flour has cooked
  • Add in the milk and the green beans and mix until the sauce has thickened. Check for seasoning and add more salt and pepper if needed
  • Place this mixture in an oven safe dish 
  • In a small bowl mix the onions and the cheese. Sprinkle them over the green bean mixture
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes or until browned and bubbly
  • Remove from heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before cutting
  • Enjoy!
