I've fancied up a classic Thanksgiving dish. This creamy Green Bean Casserole From Scratch recipe has lot's of onions, mushrooms, and green beans, & Gruyere
In a large microwave-safe bowl place the Green Beans with 2 teaspoons of water, salt, and pepper. Microwave for 2-3 minutes or until cooked. Place them in cold water to stop cooking, drain and set aside
In a large wide mouth skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes or until softened
Add the onions, parsley, salt, and pepper and cook until the onions have softened. About 5 minutes.
Pour in the flour and cook while stirring for 1 minute or until the flour has cooked
Add in the milk and the green beans and mix until the sauce has thickened. Check for seasoning and add more salt and pepper if needed
Place this mixture in an oven safe dish
In a small bowl mix the onions and the cheese. Sprinkle them over the green bean mixture
Bake for 15-18 minutes or until browned and bubbly
Remove from heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before cutting
