Do you have any leftover rice? These delicious gluten-free crispy rice arepas are made to be stuffed with your favorite fillings. Ideal for breakfast & dinner.
Best Ever Venezuelan Rice Arepas
I’m sure as you’re seeing this post, you must be a bit confused about the recipe title. Rice Arepas. These delicious guys are made with leftover rice, egg, water, and arepa flour (masa arepa). That’s it.
Who would’ve thought that rice could be turned into a crispy gluten-free patty?
Fill it with shredded beef, chicken, cheese, veggies, etc. Open the fridge and your imagination.
These rice arepas taste amazing when you use flavored rice. Plain white rice works just fine, but seasoned rice takes it to a whole new level.
For this recipe, I used Vigo Cilantro Lime Rice and each bite was as flavorful as the next one. Shop Vigo’s Online Store or your local Publix and pick up a few bags… They are so good!!
Here’s how I made them:
First, I place my cooked rice into a bowl. Then I mixed it with masa arepa (arepa flour).
I squeezed and mixed it all.
Then I added an egg, salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, and water.
If it looks a little dry, add some more water.
With your hands, shape some rounded patties.
You can use a cookie cutter to shape them.
Then I cooked them on a griddle on both sides.
How easy was that?
Arepas are super versatile since you make them any shape or size you may like.
They even work as appetizers if you make them smaller.
I love them for breakfast or dinner.
