Wondering how to drink coconut water if you do not love the taste? Here are 3 easy ways to enjoy it, plus health benefits and simple tips to make it much more delicious.

How to drink coconut water in 3 easy ways

How to Drink Coconut Water

Coconut water is light, refreshing, and packed with electrolytes, but let’s be honest, not everybody falls in love with the flavor on the first sip. Some people think it tastes tropical and fresh. Other people think it tastes like the inside of a gym bag had a beach vacation. Both feelings are valid.

The good news is that there are easy ways to enjoy coconut water without forcing yourself to chug it straight from the bottle while making a suspicious face. In this post, I am sharing 3 simple ways to drink coconut water, plus a few helpful tips on its benefits and the best time to enjoy it.

What Is Coconut Water?

Coconut water is the naturally occurring liquid found inside young green coconuts. It is different from canned coconut milk or cream because it is much lighter and more refreshing. Many people enjoy it for hydration, especially after exercise or during hot weather.

Health Benefits of Coconut Water

One of the reasons coconut water is so popular is because it contains electrolytes like potassium and magnesium. That makes it a nice option for hydration, especially after sweating, exercise, or long days in the heat.

Many people also like it because it feels lighter than sports drinks and can be an easy way to add a little variety to plain water. If you are trying to stay hydrated but are bored with regular water, coconut water can be a refreshing change.

Best Time to Drink Coconut Water

There is no single perfect time, but coconut water is especially nice in the morning, after a workout, or on very hot days when you want something cold and refreshing. It can also work well in smoothies or as part of a quick breakfast when you need something easy.

Can You Drink Coconut Water Every Day?

For many people, coconut water can fit nicely into an everyday routine. The key is to enjoy it in a way that works for your taste and your lifestyle. If drinking it plain is not your thing, these easy ideas can help make it much more enjoyable.

3 Easy Ways to Drink Coconut Water

1. Freeze Coconut Water into Ice Cubes

This is probably the easiest trick of all. Pour coconut water into an ice cube tray and freeze. Then add the cubes to plain water, sparkling water, lemonade, or juice.

The flavor becomes much more subtle as the cubes melt, so you still get the coconut water without that strong taste some people dislike. It is also a great way to make drinks feel a little fancier with almost no effort, which is my favorite kind of effort.

You can even combine coconut water with a little fruit juice before freezing for an extra boost of flavor.

2. Add It to Your Favorite Smoothie

Smoothie made with coconut water

If you already make smoothies, this is one of the best ways to use coconut water. Blend it with frozen fruit, leafy greens, yogurt, or protein powder and the flavor becomes much milder.

I love keeping little bags of cut fruit in the freezer so I can throw everything into the blender quickly. Add some spinach or kale, pour in the coconut water, and you have a fast breakfast or post-workout drink with plenty of flavor.

This method is especially good for people who want the hydration benefits but do not want a strong coconut taste.

3. Mix It with Juice

If straight coconut water is not your favorite, try mixing it with your favorite juice. This gives you a sweeter, fruitier flavor while still letting you enjoy coconut water in a more approachable way.

You can start with a small amount of coconut water and increase it little by little until you find a balance you like. Orange juice, pineapple juice, and mango blends all work especially well here.

This is the easiest option for anyone who wants a quick grab-and-go drink without making smoothies or freezing cubes.

Tips If You Do Not Like the Taste of Coconut Water

  • Serve it very cold
  • Mix it with juice
  • Use it in smoothies
  • Freeze it into cubes for other drinks
  • Start with a small amount and work your way up

Final Thoughts

If you have always wanted the benefits of coconut water but could never get past the flavor, I hope these ideas help. You do not have to drink it plain to enjoy it. A few simple tweaks can make it way more refreshing and much easier to love.

So tell me, are you willing to give coconut water another chance?
