Tips to help your Baby Sleep through the night
The first few weeks when I had my girls were a blur. Sleeplessness nights after sleepless night were getting to me. I was desperate. So I turned to my pediatrician and other moms tips & tricks and here’s the ones that worked for me. Here’s some tips to help your baby sleep through the night: Keep in mind that this tips are for helping your baby sleep LONGER and they should be at least 2-3 months old when you try them.
Personally, the #1 reason that older babies don’t sleep through the night is because they can’t tell day from night. These 5 Tips to Help Your Baby Sleep Thought The Night work for you.
TIP #1: Do not bundle him during naps… Since baby needs to differentiate between day and night it is recommended that he naps in a well lit area, keep the TV on and do not bundle him. Simply cover with a receiving blanket. That way he learns that we stay awake during the day and sleep at night (eventually). Also, speak to him during feeding. Try to establish contact so he’s more awake and alert.
TIP #2: Give him a Bath before Bedtime: A bath will help him relax and prepare for bedtime. After bath time breastfeed/bottle feed him and put him to bed. If possible, place baby in crib awake and let him self soothe to sleep instead of rocking him in your arms.
TIP #3: Create a Routine: Little babies work like a clock. If you feed him, bathe him and put him to sleep at the same time everyday they will know what to expect and physically respond to their routine. For instance, with my girls I used to put them to bed every night after their last feeding. At around 9 :00 pm. and tried to feed them at the same time everyday.
TIP #4: Swaddling. Babies sleep better when they are swaddled. Swaddling make them feel more secure.
TIP #5: Don’t speak during night feeding. The opposite of tip #1. When feeding your baby at night, do not turn the lights on. Use a nightlight and don’t speak or play with him. That way he knows that at night they eat and sleep. Night time is not play time!.
Finally, if you’re a tired new mom, there’s good news. Your baby will eventually sleep throughout the night. Some take longer than others. Cherish them when they are that little because they grow up so fast and in the blink of an eye you they are going to preschool.

Some good advice here. A bedtime routine is important for helping your baby settle down easier, and sleep through the night longer. And as you mention, consistency is key. You need a 20-30 minute routine you can stick to every night, (finish with a feed) and that can make a big difference. It’s also important to get your partner involved so your baby can become comfortable having either of you help him settle down to sleep. Andrea => http://bestbabysleep.net
