How to Visit Universal Studios on a Budget

Every kid dreams of a big trip to an amusement park, but sometimes we’re faced with the reality of the cost. All amusement parks are expensive, and Universal Studios is no exception!

When your family starts whispering about their desire to take a vacation to Universal, check out these tips on how to visit Universal Studios on a budget!

Here are some some tips to help you to visit Universal Studios on a Budget. With a little bit of planning you can spend less and enjoy a great vacation

Check for discounted tickets

Tickets will be by far your highest vacation cost, typically exceeding even travel and lodging costs. Check around online for discounted tickets or special offers to get your tickets as cheap as possible.

Good places to start looking include sites like Groupon, UndercoverTourist, or OrlandoFunTickets typically offer good discounts off of gate ticket prices. Remember, anything helps! Even just a $25 discount with a family of four nets a $100 savings for the family!

Don’t eat in the park

Similarly to Disney and any other major amusement park, the food will always be overpriced at Universal. While grabbing a snack to tide you over to mealtime won’t hurt too badly, attempting to feed a family in the park will drain your vacation fund in the blink of an eye!

See if your hotel has a complimentary breakfast, and make sure everyone fills up for the day before you head to the park. Universal does allow you to bring your own snacks into the park, which will save you, even more, when your family starts getting hungry during the day.

Buy souvenirs elsewhere

Everywhere you look in Orlando there are shops selling Disney and Universal themed souvenirs for cheap! Why pay the ridiculous prices in the park for something you’ll probably just pack away when you get home?

If you plan ahead, you could even order Universal themed items to use as souvenirs before your trip, making the shirts or hats that much more special knowing they were worn in the park as a family!

Plan your day

There are almost 100 total shops lining the walkways at Universal, which is neat, but every single one of them will have your family wanting to go inside and look around. Looking around is harmless, but window shopping leads to actual shopping, which blows budgets at marked-up shops like these.

Have a plan of what you and your family want to see and ride during your time in the park, and plan your day accordingly. Limiting time in shops helps limit temptation, but if you must shop in the park, allowing only one item per person lets everyone shop and helps keep the budget in check.

Skip the Express Pass

It sounds nice to be able to skip the line at any ride you want, but for the price, it just doesn’t make sense. Some people consider standing in line a core part of the amusement park experience, but I don’t know about that.

It’s not the most fun part, but it does give you time with your family to talk about your day so far, likes, dislikes, and anything else without having to corral everybody while you talk!

Universal Studios can be a real pain in the wallet if you’re not careful. No matter how you choose to spend your time in the park, follow these tips and make memories that will last a lifetime!
