Got your attention now?
The secret to this recipe is not only the instant pot but also the ingredients I used.
Tip #1
Purchase Fat-Free FAIRLIFE MILK or a brand of milk that is Ultra-Filtered (no straining or boiling required) and is HIGHER in protein and lower in carbs.
Tip #2
Use Ultra-Thick Yogurt such as Greek Style, Icelandic Style, or Australian. This is what they call “the starter” and gives you the whey needed for yogurt to form.
Tip #3 Use Vanilla BeanPaste (optional)
To get all those beautiful vanilla specks in every spoonful, you can use Pure Vanilla Bean paste to distribute the taste and aroma evenly. You can also use a real vanilla bean.
This ingredient is of course optional and you can omit it.
Now comes the sweetening part:
What about fruit and other ingredients:
If you would like to add a fruit puree add it AFTER the yogurt is ready in the instant pot, mix, and refrigerate until chilled.
The beauty of this recipe is that you can use yogurt you just made as a STARTER for the next batch!!
You can also use this yogurt to make an amazing loaf of Instant Pot Sourdough Bread – YUM!

Have you tried this using a higher content filtered milk? Do you know if it would work using unfiltered milk?
Tiffany says
It would work Alice, but you may need to strain it afterwards
Helen Teeples says
Why remove the sealing ring? Couldn’t you just not put it in the “pressure” mode?
Tiffany says
You can leave it on Helen, it’s just to remind people that this process is not under pressure
Amberlyn says
Would a full fat yogurt work?
Tiffany says
Yes Amberlyn!
Amberlyn says

you’re welcome Brittany! please let me know how it comes out!

How to make different flavors?
Tiffany says
Once your yogurt is completely chilled you can add your flavorings. Vanilla, Almond, or any other extracts will give it a lovely flavor.
You can also add some jelly or jam (melted previously), lemon, lime, or passion fruit curd, coffee syrups like Torani impart great flavor, Protein powder, pureed fruits, etc
Stephanie Adams says
Thus is brilliant! I just made the yogurt and it is delicious! I added some preserves to it to sweeten it for my kids and I can not believe how much yogurt it made! Thank you, I am sharing this recipe with everyone I know who has an instant pot. The people I know who don’t have an instant pot, I am telling them to get one so they can use this recipe! Thank you!!!
Tiffany says
You’re welcome Stephanie! Glad you and your kids like it! Ever since we started making our own yogurt, we don’t never to get the store bought stuff again.
Jamie says
Mine turned out completely liquidy 🙁 what did I do wrong??
Susan says
If I do a half recipe, does it still need to cook for the 8 hours?
Tiffany says
Yes Susan, it takes time for the milk to incubate.
Stacy Yerger says
Could you add coconut milk before cooking to add flavoring that way as well? Would it count for part of the milk content?
Tiffany says
Hi Stacey, yes, the coconut milk would count as part of the milk.
jane says
Why Fairlife milk? Can you use other brands of milk?
Can you use other than fat -free milk?
Tiffany says
Hi Jane, Fairlife milk it’s a brand that’s ultrafiltered, and has more protein than other kinds of milk. That will result in you in a creamy product that does not need straining. You may use fat-free milk but it’ll be less creamy and thinner. Aim for 2% for a better result and when it cools down, strain it for 2 hours using a strainer lined with paper towels
Michelle says
But you state fat free milk in your recipe…..
Shannon says
Hello! If using the coffee creamer variation, should I decrease the amount of fairlife milk used or will it still thicken appropriately with the full amount? Thanks!
Tiffany says
You don’t need to decrease the amount of milk, Shannon
Janick says
Every yogurt recipe that I have seen that uses the instant pot has said to boil the milk before. This is the first time I see the recipe just press and let it do the job. I was skeptical, but it totally works. Excellent yogurt. I am up in Quebec and I don’t think we have ultrafiltered milk, so I just used regular 2% milk. Flavored with maple syrup, some vanilla and pomegranate seeds, Totally delicious!
Tiffany says
Thanks for your feedback Janick! Glad you liked it. Now you’ll never buy yogurt again!
Rita Cooper says
I used 3.25% (whole) milk and my starter was Krema, 11% m.f. I want high fat content. I put in a can of sweetened condensed milk. It turned out wonderfully. I find it a little thinner than what I want. What is your suggestion for thickening it a little? Can I run it through another 8 hour cycle? By the way, I love the way it tastes and it was so simple. Next time I’ll put in vanilla.
Tiffany says
Hi Rita! for thickening just place a paper towel lined strainer over a bowl and add the yogurt on the strainer. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for an 1 hour. You’ll see the big difference
Karina says
Hi there,
What are the options for lactose-free folks?
Tiffany says
Look for a nut-milk with high fat content
Christina says
Hi how do I make this if I don’t have the yogurt feature on my pot?
Tiffany says
You can’t use this method if you don’t have the yogurt setting. I know there’s another way, but it involves heating the milk, thermometers, etc.
Debi says
WOW this is the easiest and best recipe! You have got to try and share with friends like I did. Thank you Tiffany!
Tiffany says
You’re welcome Debi! so glad you liked it!
Jackie Kovach says
I love this recipe….when it works. For the 2nd time, my yogurt has turned out very runny…. thickly runny. I use the right Fairlife milk, vanilla bean paste, condensed milk (but it’s always sweetened because that is all I can find in stores in my area) and Chobani plain Greek yogurt. The taste is fine but the consistency is awful! What could be wrong?
Tiffany says
Try it without the condensed milk (maybe different brand, different consistency) – And just use the milk, yogurt, and vanilla
Jackie Kovach says
I was finally able to try the recipe again, yesterday, using a different brand of condensed milk. It is better, but still not at all the right consistency for yogurt. Just wondering if you think the vanilla bean paste I used could affect it.. it’s Madagascar Vanilla Bean Paste (Amazon)… also says “bourbon” on the label. Additionally, I’ve been using Chobani plain yogurt. I bought Oikos today to try next only because my market doesn’t carry the siggi’s. Could the yogurt be an issue? I have made the recipe 6 times now – 3 have been great. 2 had to be tossed and this last is “better” but not nearly right.
Kristi Wheeler says
I didn’t think of using vanilla bean paste. I’ll have to try that next time! Thanks for the great tips. So far I’m loving making Instant Pot yogurt!
Tiffany says
You’re welcome Kristi! gotta love that pot!
Samantha Estevez says
I just made this!! Delicious! Followed the instructions to a Tee but it made waaay more that 4 cups. I got about 8 or 9 cups!!!
Anyways, how long is the yogurt good for once made?!
Thanks! ❤️
Tiffany says
Hi Samantha! About 10 days – Usually in my house, it goes before that, so it’s just a guestimate
Jessica says
Do you need to spray the instapot prior to starting? I’m petrified of things burning to the bottom…(it may have happened a time or 2) hahaha
Tiffany says
Not at all! since the heat on the yogurt button is so low, it shouldn’t burn the milk
Lula says
how do you use the insta pot for yogurt if you don’t have the yogurt button?
Tiffany says
Unfortunately, this recipe is for models with the yogurt button. Sorry Lula 🙁
Lula says
just starting and would like to make yogurt but don’t have the yogurt button. Do you have a recipe?
Connie says
Check with You Tube. There are recipes on the that don’t use the yogurt button.

Bobbie says
Hello, I read someplace else that you want the milk at certain temp before you put the starter in bc if the temp is too high it will kill the live bacteria. your recipe doesn’t mention anything about temp. Now my brain is confused!
Tiffany says
Hi Bobbie, since we’re using ultrafiltered milk we skipped that step.
Jo Byrd says
I made this yogurt last nite. I used 2 heaping
Tablespoons of Siggis as starter. This yogurt
Came out perfect thickness. Great recipe.
Thamks.
Tiffany says
You’re welcome Jo! glad it came out perfect 🙂
Kelly says
Any idea how long the yogurt will last or ideas for prolonging the life? Will sealing it in mason jars extend the life?
Tiffany says
Unfortunately, I can’t answer that. In my house it doesn’t last very long since we tend to eat it within the week
Kelly says
Best yogurt ever. I make a sweet and tangy batch and midx them.
Tiffany says
Glad you like it Kelly!
Connie Riddle says
one of the best recipes I use I don’t really care too much for greek yogurt but I was at a friends and she just got an instapot and was so proud of how good it was so reluctantly I tried a little then I got some more of this creamy yogurt and put some blueberries on it.. bought an instapot and have made and shared with many friends
Leslie says
First try and this yogurt turned out great. I just used regular 2% milk without any issues. Want to try it next with the Fairlife milk if I can find it and leave out the condensed milk for less sugar.
Tiffany says
I leave out the condensed milk all the time and never had trouble with flavor
Alison B says
I have to say, I was skeptical… But this recipe is epically easy and delicious! We made it with whole milk for my little ones. Excited to always be able to have yogurt on hand!
Tiffany says
That’s great Alison! so glad it worked out and your little ones liked it!
Jan Coe says
Just got my Instant Pot today. I am super confused about making yougurt. I only use Greek right now because of the high protein and no sugar. So, I know you must have answered this, but can I use regular fat free milk and use Greek yogurt for the starter?? I really have to be very careful about calories and fat.
Tiffany says
Yes Jan. You can. When the yogurt is ready, you can line a colander with cheesecloth or paper towels, place it on top of a bowl and pour your yogurt in the colander. Place it on the fridge for a couple of hours and you will get thicker greek yogurt
