- Single-serving dessert
- Low-carb and gluten-free
- Made in the microwave
- Rich, moist, and chocolatey
- No regular flour or sugar needed
The Secret to a Moist Mug Cake
The biggest mistake with mug cakes is overcooking them. A few extra seconds in the microwave can turn a soft cake into a rubbery little tire. Not cute.
For the best texture, microwave just until the cake is set but still moist. It will continue cooking slightly from the residual heat.

Best Keto Mug Cake Toppings
This cake is delicious as-is, but if you want to make it extra indulgent, try adding a few sugar-free chocolate chips right when it comes out of the microwave. The heat will melt them into the top.
You can also add whipped cream, berries, chopped nuts, or a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate sauce.

Can I Use Coconut Flour Instead?
Yes, but coconut flour absorbs much more liquid than almond flour. If substituting coconut flour, use about one-third of the amount listed for almond flour.
You can also swap the sweetener depending on what you have. Swerve, monk fruit blends, or Truvia can all work, but sweetness levels vary by brand.
Tips for the Best Keto Mug Cake
- Use a microwave-safe mug with enough room for the cake to rise
- Do not overcook; start checking early
- Add chocolate chips after cooking for a fudgier top
- Let it cool for 1 minute before eating
- Adjust the sweetener to taste, depending on the brand
